Drawing - Graphite On Paper
Description
A powerful male nude figure study in HB, B, 2B, 3B and 4B graphite, rendering on paper a classic Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo. The artist's gentle measured layering of the dark graphite creates an appealingly clean and smooth quality -- the viewer can almost feel the original sculpture's marble -- even as his eye for detail faithfully renders every fine detail of the strong and muscular male arms bound in slavery. From the light and shadows and reflections of the modeling of the man's flesh, the viewer can almost feel the tortuous strength and frustration of the writhing figure who nevertheless looks upward with hope toward light and freedom, perfectly capturing the feel of the original sculpture by the Old Master of the Italian Renaissance.
